So let’s throwback to our ‘Detoxing Naturally” blog in case you missed it.
Our body has its own natural detoxification process which involves several body systems all working optimally together synergistically.
However, if any of these body systems become overwhelmed, they can become sluggish, affect the other systems ability to detox efficiently and potentially create some unwanted side effects such as fatigue and headaches.
The main centres for detoxification are of course the liver, kidneys, skin, lungs, and lymphatic system.
In the above blog we discussed ways to support these major organs of elimination such as drinking lots of filtered water, eating lots of cruciferous vegetables, and dry body brushing.
In this article we have some tips on how to further reduce the toxic exposures in your immediate environment so to not further burden these pathways. The other reason its important to note is because some of the chemicals we are exposed to can mimic our natural hormones and therefore disrupt the endocrine system as mentioned in our previous article “Natural Ways to Support Hormone Harmony”.
They can also affect thyroid function, fertility, and more. It can be hard to control all toxic exposures especially those outside, therefore the focus needs to be what you can control which is your immediate environment inside the home.
Our tips on how to reduce your toxic load:

The low down on Little Wildling Co superfood powdered lattes.
Our Latte powders come equipped with warming spices and invigorating ingredients, and are a great way to support circulation, inflammation, and detoxification. Our antioxidant loaded Matcha can help reduce free radical damage to cells in a less over stimulating way if you are reducing caffeine, and if you can’t go past a hot chocolate then our Red Velvet Latte is the ultimate luxury.
Hands up if you love a good Chai?
Well, you have come to the right place. Little Wilding Co has a divine blend with a twist that sets it apart from the rest and is just a little bit spesh. Our blend is a perfectly balanced symphony of warming and medicinal spices such as Cinnamon, Cloves, Ginger, Cardamon and Star Anise.
We made this a caffeine-free zone by adding Dandelion root instead of black tea, which is amazing to support detoxification and skin health, and added a sprinkle of raw cacao powder for antioxidants and energy support.
Little Wilding co I AM GOLDEN packs a punch when it comes to the therapeutic qualities of anti-inflammatory herbs and spices. Each ingredient supports the body to fight inflammation and boost overall wellness with organic Turmeric, Ginger, Cloves, Cinnamon, and Black pepper.
Studies of matcha and its components have unearthed a variety of benefits such as being liver protective, promote cardiovascular health, and even aid in weight loss. Antioxidants help stabilize harmful free radicals, which are compounds that can damage cells and cause chronic disease. Adding matcha powder to hot water releases all the nutrients from the entire leaf, meaning it contains more catechins and antioxidants than simply steeping green tea leaves in water. Think super concentrated free radical fighting goodness!
We also added some peppermint powder which adds a uniqueness to balance out the bitter nature of matcha and provide a revitalising quality to help improve mental clarity and support you through the day. Heat up some coconut milk with a dash of honey and enjoy!
In case you didn’t know, Little Wildling Co has a sexy powdered latte blend – Red Velvet Latte, where hot chocolate and health collide.
Available in our display worthy, sustainable black glass jars, this stunning blend is pure luxury plus antioxidant and immune system loving health benefits – a hot chocolate you never need to feel guilty about!
Just add one heaped teaspoon, mostly hot water, top with milk option of choice and add a little honey to finish. You're welcome.

These include Oat Straw (Avena Sativa), Valerian (Valeriana officinalis), Passionflower (Passiflora incarnata), Gotu kola (Centella asiatica), Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora), and Withania.
There are also many herbs which have a broader scope of non-specific support to the overall nervous system used to treat conditions such as neuralgia, nervous debility, stress, restlessness, panic attacks, insomnia, and headache and visceral spasm (due to the relaxing and spasmodic action on some of these herbs).
Herbs in this category include the above listed plus Californian poppy (Eschscholtzia californica), Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis), Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca), Kava (piper methysticum), Lime flowers (tillia spp., and Cramp bark (viburnum opulus).
The mechanism of how the constituents of these herbs affect the body has to do with the communication between the receptor sites on the synaptic membranes between nerve and nerve, nerve to muscles and tissues and so on.
Nervine herb activity affects the GABA , acetylcholine , and dopaminergic receptors, as well as some having analgesic qualities, and anxiolytic and antidepressant activities.
Because of the powerful effects of these herbs on the nervous system, therapeutic use of many of these need to be closely monitored and prescribed by a qualified practitioner in case there are any underlying conditions that need to be uncovered, and also any contraindications.
However, many are perfectly safe to consume in small and less concentrated amounts as a beautiful herbal infusion and when drunk regularly can still support the body when needed.
Little Wildling Co has a range of herbal tea blends designed by qualified herbalists to help you unwind, calm and relax you whilst ensuring the flavour is on point:
A heavenly blend of medicinal herbs to lull you into a relaxed state, especially made for those times when you are physically exhausted but too wired to sleep. Perfect as you settle into bed with a good book or relax in the bath before bed. Lavender and Passionflower have sedative and hypnotic effects to get you into a deeply relaxed state, while Valerian and Chamomile soothes restlessness and anxiety which can keep us awake at night.
INGREDIENTS: An oh so calming blend of Chamomile, Passionflower, Lavender, Hyssops, Valerian.
Packed full of calming nervines such as Skullcap - our nervous system restorer which can help in times of emotional distress and anxiety, while Licorice helps to soothe the adrenals and rebalance the stress response. Chamomile can calm the nerves that cause digestive upsets, and Siberian ginseng can support the physical and mental impacts of stress.
INGREDIENTS: Licorice, Marshmallow, Chamomile, Siberian Ginseng, Rosehip, Turmeric Root and Skullcap Leaf.
Don’t let the name throw you. This is a meticulously thought-out blend of Western and Ayuvedic herbs to soothe your adrenals and nervous system, reduce inflammation, improve cognitive function, and cerebral circulation. It’s a healthy replacement for your morning coffee which in stressful times can exacerbate the affects stress has on the body and can actually increase anxiety. Bacopa and Gingko biloba can help you focus, supporting our adrenals and healthy stress response with Licorice and Siberian ginseng, and keeping inflammation in check with Withania which also helps our bodies cope in stressful times.
Ingredients: Marshmallow, Withania (Ashwagandha), Gingko Biloba, Dandelion, Yerba Mate, Turmeric Root, Siberian Ginseng, Bacopa (Brahmi) and Licorice

The main reason is it aligns you with your body’s natural circadian rhythm in response to sunlight rather than going against it which can overtime impact our wellbeing. We may already be genetically programmed to be a ‘morning person’ or a ‘night owl’ on top of other contributing factors such as hormones, our age, where we live. That’s not to say we can’t re-program this chronotype, and why not give it go if you feel its something that might benefit you day to day.
Here are the top tips to becoming a morning person so you can tackle your to-do list minus the anxiety and add a spring in your step:
Lastly, don’t be hard on yourself if you snooze that alarm. It literally doesn’t have to happen overnight!

When it comes to extreme sugar cravings, our bodies are aggressively seeking out that quick energy hit that it may not get from our general day to day diet especially if its lacking in good quality protein (particularly at breakfast), a variety of complex carbs, and some healthy fats to keep us feeling satisfied for longer. Stress can also be a culprit for sugar cravings, as our cortisol spikes it leads to dysregulation of our HPA axis even further compounding the need to fuel with quick energy like a sugary treat.
It can weaken our immune system for up to 6 hours after consumption, negatively affect our mood and ability to concentrate, as well as upset the balance of our microbiome. Constant spiking of blood sugar without any benefit of nutrients is eventually going to overstimulate insulin secretion leading to major health problems down the track.
The first line of defence for a sweet tooth is always going to be a wholefood diet, but there are also a few little pearls of herbal medicine wisdom you could incorporate into the day to day to help support you with the quest for a sugar free life:
Licorice
As it is naturally sweet, it can act as that ‘sweet’ fix and as it is also indicated in PCOS which normally goes hand in hand with insulin resistance and adrenal fatigue, addressing these can have the flow on effect of helping to dampen sugar cravings.
Turmeric
Recent research has provided the scientific basis for curcumin and its role in the prevention and treatment of diabetes and its associated disorders. Curcumin could positively affect most of the main characteristics of diabetes, including insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, and hyperlipidemia.
St Marys Thistle
Silymarin has been studied mainly for its specific indication for the treatment of liver disorders. However, several studies of other pathologies, including type 2 diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia have also tested the effects of silymarin and reported promising results.
Cinnamon
One of the favourites for herbalists and nutritionists alike for blood sugar balancing is our lovely Cinnamomum. This fragrant and naturally sweet spice is also indicated in diabetes, metabolic syndrome X, and insulin resistance.

]]>Yerba Mate: A powerhouse of antioxidants. Yerba Mate is mainly used for physical and cognitive performance with its slightly stimulating effects, but also may help to reduce inflammation as a result of these. A great one to include as a pre-workout.
Siberian ginseng: Another member of the adrenal loving club, Siberian Ginseng has a party trick - it also doubles as a cognitive performance enhancer. It can basically help you through physical and mental stress while minimising the impact on the body. It is an adaptogen with a more stimulating effect as opposed to its adapto-counterparts.
Withania: The less stimulating member of our wonderful adaptogen gang and has some well researched health benefits from modulating the stress response, its neuroprotective, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, treatment for iron-deficiency and also has an affinity to the thyroid. It’s a beautiful protector and keeps the cortisol levels under control due to its Adaptogenic action, whilst also promotes energy, and supports the impact of physical stress on the body.
Licorice: The ‘Sweet root’ of licorice is the adrenals best friend or what herbalists call ‘trophorestorative’ because its main indication was to treat adrenal disease. It’s also extremely anti-inflammatory and modulates the immune system. Just the thing after we have given our adrenals a thumping with that extra intense workout.
Ginkgo biloba: Amazing for circulation, and amazing for cardiovascular health – tick!
Another great addition to the pre-workout or if you need a 3pm pick me up or cramming for that exam. Ginkgo is an antioxidant, antiplatelet activating factor (Anti-PAF), circulatory stimulant, cognition enhancing, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective.

]]>There are many beautiful and gentle herbs used in western herbal medicine to help alleviate some of the symptoms in conjunction with some lifestyle techniques such as breathwork, meditation, mindfulness, and movement.
However, before using this class of herbs to support your mental health and manage your anxiety symptoms, it’s a good idea to talk with a qualified healthcare practitioner to avoid potential interactions with medications or health conditions.
Some of our favourite herbs are:
Lavender
It’s probably fair to say we can’t get enough of this one in our lives. With so many of us suffering from insomnia and anxiety, we should be bathing in it daily! Simply inhaling Lavender at night improved the quality of sleep as shown in human trials, whilst tincture form has demonstrated potent sedative and hypnotic activities in vivo. The essential oil contains potent chemical compounds - linalyl acetate and linalool, and their potential therapeutic effects of reducing anxiety and ability to improve mood has gained a lot of attention lately, and rightfully so!
Bacopa
Bacopa or Brahmi as it’s called in India (not to be confused with Gotu Kola also known as Brahmi), is one of the long-standing traditional herbs used in Ayurvedic medicine for cognitive health, especially our long-term memory, concentration, and mental performance. Clinically, Bacopa is used in memory and cognition, but also to treat anxiety, epilepsy, and specifically learning & memory in ADHD, and the research is there to back it up! Studies have found Bacopa improved memory consolidation, information processing and a reduction in anxiety amongst healthy volunteers. In children, it had improved visual & motor function, short-term memory & amp; mental reaction times as opposed to placebo groups.
Passionflower
This most intricate of flowers has an incredible history and was named after the crown of thorns worn by Jesus Christ during the crucifixion due to the resemblance of the corona. Once introduced in Europe it became a traditional phytotheraputic & homeopathic remedy for the relief of mental stress, anxiety and sleep disorders. This calming herb has been shown in research to have an affinity to GABA receptors (our cool, calm and collected neurotransmitters), so it is a good one to keep in the cupboard for those restless nights where our busy minds just won’t let up.
Valerian
Valerian has been used in ancient Greece by Hippocrates and Dioscorides themselves as a sedative for nervousness, and to treat dyspepsia over 2000 years ago. Clinically today, its often teamed up with other relaxing herbs like lemon balm, Chamomile, Skullcap or Passionflower in order to treat conditions like insomnia, anxiety or restless legs syndrome. It has an unmistakeable aroma and some amazing active components such as Valepotriates, essential oil, valerianic acid and its derivatives, sesquiterpenes, lignans and alkaloids. It also contains free amino acids like GABA, tyrosine, arginine and glutamine. Valerian is a beautiful herb to prepare your body and mind for a blissful night sleep, and for general wellbeing.
Chamomile
Chamomile is one of the most widely used and well documented medicinal plants worldwide not only for its sedative action (let’s face it who doesn’t need some of that these days), but it also acts like a nice warm hug for your insides. The anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, healing and soothing affects may help improve conditions and their symptoms such as IBS, Gastro-oesophageal reflux, peptic ulcer, as well as nausea, motion sickness, basically all aspects of digestive discomfort this herb has it all covered. You know that feeling when nerves kick and suddenly nausea follows? Yep that’s your enteric nervous system in your gut talking to your brain, and that is where Chamomile can help bring the calm in more ways than one
Skullcap
When our nervous systems just need a big warm squeeze, or the perfect herb to round out the restorative hatha yoga practice you just finished, that’s where our amazing Skullcap comes in. We consider Skullcap to be our nervous system restorer, especially on those days where we have over done it and over activated our sympathetic responses. We start heading into broken sleep territory and no one has time for that! Skullcap like our lovely mint and rosemary is part of the Lamiacea family, and its key constituents include flavonoids (baicalin and scutellarin), diterpines, amino acids, and some essential oils, and has had notable outcomes in trials in reducing symptoms of anxiety and boosting mood via stimulating GABA. The perfect chill zone herb.
Find these heavenly herbs in Little Wildling co blends:
PEPPERMINT, LEMON MRYTLE + LAVENDER
Other amazing anxiolytic herbs include California Poppy, Hops, Kava, Lemon Balm, Lime Flowers, Mexican valerian, Oats, St John’s Wort and Zizyphus.

]]>
As well as being confined to the indoors, which to be honest I think we are used to, sometimes it’s just relentless screen fatigue, the slow commute for those doing morning drop off or heading back to the office for the first time in two years that can be a bit of a drainer, and you know what? That’s ok.
We can ease ourselves into the shorter days, slower Sunday mornings, movie afternoons with a hot tea. There is a bigger picture here. We are conditioned now to appreciate going slow, and we have changed for the better because of it.
Staying in instead of pressuring ourselves to be social, marinating in the little moments Infront of us, or simply turning inward, there is much to be grateful for even though many of us have had the toughest times condensed into a very short period.
Many of us are potentially still feeling the effects from constantly being in fight or flight mode from the past two years, and we may not be fully aware of the impact that had on our nervous systems and adrenals.
With so much going on in the world, while its important to be aware it’s also important to take some time out so we don’t become consumed by it and give our body’s the love and care it needs whether its making to that yoga class you missed last week, or cancelling plans to relax instead, this is where Little Wilding Co HIBERNATE & CHILL and the beautiful health benefits of the ingredients can help:
Licorice – Glycyrrhiza glabra
Our adrenal loving Licorice really is a jack of all trades (hence why you’ll find it in so many of our blends) with its medicinal use of the ‘sweet root’ well documented since approximately 2500 BC.
The most studied of its active constituents are several triterpenoid saponins – glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhetinic acid, and flavonoids and have demonstrated a laundry list therapeutic actions on several body systems such as endocrine, GIT, and immune systems.
Its particularly soothing to our digestive system thanks to the anti-inflammatory, mucoprotective qualities, it may also help with respiratory ailments, as well as having anticarcinogenic, anti-viral, anti-ulcer, immunomodulating actions.
Its specific indication is as an adrenal trophorestorative and therefore used in the treatment of Addison’s disease and adrenal fatigue in Western Herbal Medicine. Topically it has shown to have benefits for a variety of skin conditions including eczema.
Of course, it also makes everything taste amazing because of its naturally sweet flavour!
Marshmallow root – Althea officinalis
This soothing medicinal herb has been used since ancient times to heal and protect due to Marshmallow’s mucilage content. The demulcent effects seem to work across several body systems including respiratory, gastrointestinal, and urinary systems. It’s also a used topically as a soothing emollient providing relief for dry and itchy skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Chamomile – Matricaria recutita
Chamomile is one of the most widely used and well documented medicinal plants worldwide, not only for its ability to bring the calm with its sedative action thanks to one of its key bioactive constituents - apigenin, but it also acts like a nice warm hug for your insides.
To break it down, the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, healing and soothing affects may help improve conditions and their symptoms such as IBS, gastro-oesophageal reflux, peptic ulcer, as well as nausea and motion sickness, basically all aspects of digestive discomfort, this herb has it all covered.
Siberian ginseng – Eleutherococcus senticosus
Another member of the adrenal loving club, Siberian Ginseng has a party trick - it also doubles as a cognitive performance enhancer. It can basically help you through physical and mental stress while minimising the impact on the body. Its best used in times of chronic debility rather than acute phases of infection as it works to rebuild the body’s vitality over time, and its apoptogenic action means it has a balancing effect.
Turmeric root – Curcuma longa
Long before Turmeric lattes were trendy, this incredible vibrant yellow coloured cousin of ginger, was used in traditional Chinese and Ayurveda medicine to treat a wide variety of digestive, metabolic and inflammatory disorders. Studies have shown Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory, wound healing, antimicrobial activities. It was once believed that these activities were due to the isolated curcumin however, research beyond the early 2000’s identified numerous chemical entities and therefore deemed more viable therapeutically as a whole extract.
Skullcap (Scutellaria lateriflora)
When our nervous systems just need a big warm squeeze, or the perfect herb to round out the restorative yoga practice you just finished, that’s where our amazing Skullcap comes in.
We consider Skullcap to be our nervous system restorer, especially on those days where we have over done it and over activated our sympathetic responses. Skullcap has had notable outcomes in trials in reducing symptoms of anxiety and boosting mood via stimulating GABA. The perfect chill zone herb.
]]>Seasonal changes also mean a shift whether that is our mood or our energy, so it’s a good time to really serve our bodies and listen to what is needed so we stay grounded emotionally, and healthy physically so by the time Winter comes around we can thrive and be our best version of ourselves.
This means introducing warmer foods, slow cooking, enjoying wholesome soups, and sipping herbal teas and comforting lattes.
Ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon are three powerful herbs that are relatively easy to add into our diet by making Dhal or stews and are beautiful for our digestion.
Latte powders with warming spices are a great way to support our circulation, inflammation, and detoxification, while antioxidant loaded Matcha can help reduce free radical damage to cells in a less over stimulating way.
Hands up if you love a good Chai?
Well you have come to the right place.

It’s our very own antioxidant bomb full of beautifully protective ingredients like Elderberry, Hibiscus, Juniper and Licorice, which are rich in flavonoids, vitamin C, and of course tastes amazing too as its naturally sweetened with a touch of stevia leaf.

Elderberry: Antiviral, immunostimulant, Antioxidant, just what the doctor ordered when it comes to taking winter head on!
Juniper: Urinary antiseptic, mild diuretic, carminative, anti-inflammatory, the main flavouring component in Gin – Bonus?

]]>Our Chai blend is a little bit extra special because we snuck in a little raw cacao powder for that luxurious chocolatey finish without compromising on the health benefits.
We all know that a little dark chocolate is good for many things including heart health and lifting our mood, but when we overindulge on that choccy bar we are also getting more than we bargained for with the added sugars, saturated fat, and the crazy processing that the cacao bean goes under which basically wipes out most of the nutrients.
The health benefits of cacao powder have been known for decades, but only now are we finally seeing the proof. Cacao beans contain high levels of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and beneficial amino acids, which are beneficial for heart health and moods.
Whilst it is true that dark chocolate is better than milk chocolate when it comes to nutrient content and health benefits, this is only part of the story. Chocolate contains a high amount of saturated fats and is also high in calories.
Additionally, the large-scale production of cacao bean powder required for the chocolate industry means a compromise in farming practices and ultimately results in a lack of these nutrients in any meaningful quantity.
Cacao powder is often labelled a “super-food” and with good reason as its high in magnesium, zinc, iron, calcium, beta-carotene, as well as being a natural mood enhancer without the adverse side effects due to its tryptophan content, the precursor to serotonin.
Other benefits of cacao powder include:
May aid weight loss due to its chromium content
Helps regulate blood sugar levels
Has a high content of arginine which is known to have aphrodisiac properties.
Helps enhance circulation
