ANTIOXIDANTS: WHY THEY ARE SO BERRY IMPORTANT

The term antioxidants gets thrown around a lot these days we are constantly told we need them for our health, but do you really know why that is the case?

Antioxidants are a group of molecules naturally occurring within the body which fight free radicals. These little guys are extremely unstable and can cause cellular damage leading to some nasty health outcomes if the levels get out of control for too long which leads to oxidative stress.

Prolonged oxidative stress states mean your body is less able to fight off infections, speeds up the aging process, as well being linked to multiple chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

Some of the reasons why an imbalance can occur in the body include many lifestyle and environmental factors such as air pollution, smoking, western diets high in hydrogenated vegetable oils, over exercising, excessive UV exposure, alcohol intake and toxic chemicals.

Our bodies are pretty damn clever to keep all this quietly under control, but we can also give it a little helping hand by eating foods naturally high in antioxidants like fresh fruit and vegetables, especially berries which are rich in flavonoids and vitamin C – Isn’t nature the best?

If there was ever a reason to get more berries into your life I think that just about sums it up so why not warm up with Little Wildling Co’s very own antioxidant bomb – Black (Berry) Heart?
