Why Little Wildling Co chooses to go organic

LWC ethos from the very beginning has been centred around sustainable practices all the way down the line of our supply chain, supporting organically grown herb farms, and putting people and the environment at the forefront of our business.

We totally get it, going Organic might feel like its out of reach or not worth the time/effort when there are so many other things to think about.

What we do recommend, if you are keen your maximising your health and your family’s health, is to have a few things on the organic ‘priority’ list and focus on investing in those few things.

Because at the end of the day what you are essentially investing in is your long-term health.

By avoiding as much microplastic, pesticide laden, GMO, heavy metals, and antibiotics in your produce as possible you are reducing the potential for adverse health outcomes.

The ever-growing evidence shows these types of chemicals can wreak havoc with growth and development, our nervous systems, our hormones, and our gut health and in some cases cause cancers.

Choosing organic also has major benefits for our environment with less harmful chemicals being used at large scale, keeping it out of the soil and water ways and also supports sustainable farming practices.

We are not suggesting you send yourself broke, but by making a handful of switches to organic is a great step in the right direction.

Three areas we suggest you focus on are the ‘dirty dozen’ when it comes to your fruit and veg shop:

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Kale
  4. Nectarines
  5. Apples
  6. Grapes
  7. Cherries
  8. Peaches
  9. Pears
  10. Peppers
  11. Celery
  12. Tomatoes

Make a morning of it and try out your local farmers market on a weekend and grab these items from there, and the rest while doing your weekly grocery shop.

Animal products! These includes all your meat, eggs, dairy, as well as wild caught fish where possible to minimize your exposure to growth hormones, antibiotics, and pesticides. The meat we choose has major cascading effects on human health in particular antibiotic resistance and impacts on our microbiome, as well as animal welfare and the environment, especially soil health and biodiversity which we know influences climate.

Finally, the tea you drink!

Unfortunately, Tea is one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world with unnecessary synthetic toxic chemicals which cause a chain reaction of detrimental effects on surrounding eco-systems and every living thing in it including us.

Also, steeping non-organic tea in hot water only means anything that the leaves are sprayed with are leeching out into your cup like synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides.

Drinking organic tea also means you are automatically drinking a superior quality product as the plant has been nourished and grown naturally maximising its active ingredients for a better therapeutic effect, supporting the health of the soil it grown in, AND you get to experience its true flavour.

As an added perk of drinking Little Wildling Co. tea is whether you choose loose leaf or our tea bag range, our inserts and our tea bags are 100% plastic free so nothing bad is leeching into your brew and is made from compostable plant materials.

So a conscious choice to drink organic tea is one that only benefits the earth as well as your health, and Little wilding Co. has all bases covered with our heavenly blends to keep you going all throughout the day.
